Hanmer Springs Camp 2019
This week from Monday to Wednesday two of our classes were on camp, this year we went to Hanmer Springs. We stayed at the Hanmer forest camp from the 20th to the 22nd of May. We done most of our activities with Activity Hanmer, we done Tree Climbing, Orienteering and Mountain Biking with them. The other activities we done without them were going to the Hanmer Cemetery and had to read the graves to find information, some of the questions were: (Q) Who was the youngest buried. (A) 4 days old. (Q) Who was the oldest buried. (A) 94 years old.
Day 1
For our first activity it was Mountain Biking we started by finding a Bike and a Helmet that fitted our size and shape, then we went for a test drive around the paddick, I don't think it was a race but if it was I don't want to brag but I won by miles, I mean I do ride bikes quite a lot. After this we went to the forest, we started on the Easyrider track then follow some of the perseverance track. Next we started making our way back to camp, we done this activity on the first day just after we got there. Then we had a bit of a chill at the camp. Next we went to the hot pools, just as we got there we got told where we were and weren't allowed to go. First night I mostly played in the lazy river and the one hot pool we were allowed in. then we had dinner, for the first night we had spaghetti bolognese, then for dessert we had some ice cream and fruit salad. After that we had camp quiz. Next we finally had to go to bed for the big day ahead.
Day 2
In the morning we had to go to the kitchen and choose what we wanted for breakfast. I had toast with leftover mince on it. Then we had to make our lunch, we got to make a bread roll a muesli bar and two pieces of home baking. First off on our second day we started off with orienteering first we had a brief to tell us where we can and can't go again. After this we were told how to orienteer a map after this we set off to find the small pieces of pipe hanging from the trees, each one had a code on it, in our group were Dad, Will, Emil, Morgan I, most of the codes only gave you 10 points, but some of the ones that were further away were worth 20, 30 and 50 points. We came close second with only 20 points behind. The second activity on day two was cemetery study. We had to walk for a wee bit to get there, then we were given a bit of paper with some questions on it like then ones at the top, after this we went back to camp for a bit before getting in our cars then going to the forest where there is a walk with carved statues all over the place. After this we had our lunch that we made in the morning. We next went to some of the trees at the camp and got a harness then we connected it to the tree so we could start climbing. This was my favourite activity but my most feared one, well because im afraid of heights. On my first turn I didn’t make it past the first branch, second turn I made it to the top on the easy side. On my third turn I nearly made it to the top on the hard side. After this we hung out at the camp before going to the hot pools for the second night. This time my dad bought a pass to go onto the superbowl with me, we went extremely fast with the weight of it, but if I wasn’t on the super bowl I was in the lazy river or the 40 degrees hot pool. After this we went back to camp to have dinner this night we had deviled sausages for dessert we had chocolate pudding with ice cream. Next we had camp concert, Emil and I done magic tricks with the cards I brought to camp. Then we went to bed, and slept for the night.
Day 3
On day three we had one last activity, hiking up Conical Hill. It took us about 30 minutes to get up then about 15 minutes to get down. Next we went to the lolly pot ( A lollie shop in Hanmer ) I bought some gobstoppers, mini gobstoppers, gum and werthers original ( THE BEST CANDY IN THE UNIVERSE ) next we went back to camp to have lunch with the other two classes we left on the 22nd and they came up on the 22nd after that we started to make our way back home, it's about 3-4 hours to get home. In my car was Dad, Lavinia, Allie, Liam and I, when we got back most of the parents were waiting at school to pick their children up and take them home. That night I slept really well and sleeped in a bit more than usual.
